Contact us by phone or text if you have any questions or want to get an update. Texting is best as we may not hear the phone if we are busy, busy, busy! We take photos of nearly every frame we make for reference. They all have glass, even if our display pics may not! Again, just ask if you want any more help. Each order is wrapped and sent out by Aramex Couriers. The website will email you a tracking number when it's sent off. You will often (not always) get updates from the courier as your order gets ready for delivery. We insure every order so will repair, replace or refund if there's ever a problem. It happens for less than 1% of orders. Pretty good odds! But stuff does happen. We try our best with our quality frames. Generous packaging and padding is used. We err on the side of too much wrapping! It's a lot of extra work for us to fix things. It's a lot of bother and disappointment for you too! So we really aim to avoid any problems or breakages in delivery.
We'll still be open and making frames in the New Year, too. We aim to head off on our next grey nomad adventure in March next year. We'll keep you posted. After nearly 30 years in small business, Wombat Frames are getting towards the end of 80 plus hours a week hand making our gorgeous photo frames! Last year was a trip out to Uluru and back. This year was a shorter trip to the beach at South West Rocks. Unless we start towing our picture frame workshop with us, we'll be open seasonally until Simon gets the travel bug out of his system.
So, seasons greetings. A Merry Christmas, and a relaxed and enjoyable New Year to you all! Order as soon as you can. Tell your friends too. Be warned, Wombat Frames can be addictive and are great for your positive health, well being and enjoyment of life!

]]>We reopened the Wombat Workshop yesterday. Yeah !!!!!!!
After being wiped out last Christmas in the bushfires, Wombat Frames have finally managed to rebuild from scratch and are now good to go again.
We'd again like to thank everyone for all the help and support we have recieved. We've looked on the bright side and tried to take it as a huge opportunity and adventure.
13 months closed and still loyal followers have contacted us and waited.
It is humbling. Now, it's exciting to get back to Wombat Work and make some more of our beautiful hand crafted Australian picture frames.
Our recycled timber stocks are presently low but we have enough to reopen.
No more are the 20 tons of recycled timbers and the years of stockpiling. But not to worry!
Order away and support us as we get going again.
We are Australian , hand makers, artists, artisans, crafts people, local , recyclers, inventors, creators, hard workers, supporters of the planet, tree huggers, (sometimes?), and passionate proponents of the principles;
That we are all peace inside,
We are all Joy inside,
We are all calm inside.
And if all else fails, fill up another Wombat Frame and hang it on the wall.
Thanks
Simon and Gabrielle Marlow

]]>As you can imagine, we are super busy here in the Wombat Frames workshop right now. We’re working our socks off but with a big smile on our face! It’s all because of you that we are doing well this year. Because you are the Australians buying sustainable and recycled timber photo frames and mirrors. You’re supporting Australian small businesses where people are making handcrafted items to order, with great care, one at a time. Where would craftspeople be in Australia without you?
(OMG I’m drinking the last of a big bottle of Kombucha, right now. It’s gone flat and cloudy, pretty intense….)
So because of our busy bee situation, your December Wombat Frames Blog is going to be short and sweet.
We need time to make your recycled timber picture frames and mirrors as well, and have lots of orders, so unfortunately it’s too late for the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
All remaining locations (please see the Courier info above): 5th December.
Once again, we can’t thank you enough for your kind and generous support this year.
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and completely Happy Holidays, filled with so many Joyful Moments. Actually we just wish that you have joyful moments every day!
Your Wombat Friends, Simon and Gabrielle Marlow
There is quite a lot involved in making each frame by hand. Simon selects the timber for each frame in such a way that the timber is interesting; both in colour and texture. He then re-purposes it before carefully turning it into a one-of-a-kind designer picture frame or mirror.
You’ll find many different sizes and combinations to choose from on our Wombat Frames Website.
Wombat Picture Frames make brilliant Christmas presents for all our loved ones. They are perfect for putting those sweet, funny, and beautiful photos in that will mean so much to the person receiving it. Nothing beats a personalised present that’s not going to have to be thrown out after a year or so.
Wombat Frames aren’t just beautiful, they are made with care and they are made to last.
Many of us are becoming aware of the need to move away from mass production and are choosing Australian handmade presents. We are looking towards more meaningful and long lasting gifts.
We are all looking at ways to take care of our beautiful world and purchasing Eco friendly options for a more sustainable lifestyle.
At Wombat Frames we have spent the last 25 years creating a huge variety of Photo Frames and Mirrors that are hand made out of Australian Recycled Timbers. The timbers are sourced locally in the Southern Highlands and Sydney area.
Over those years we have found that around Christmas time we sell mostly the smaller frames. So to help you with ideas, we have added photos of frames which have been the most popular around Christmas to this short article.
We get very busy this time of year with your orders and to make sure you don’t get disappointed it’s best to get your orders in as soon as possible. We will need to stop taking orders after the first week in December.
So to encourage early orders and also have a bit of fun we’ve created a super special prize draw for anyone who orders through the Wombat Frames website before 15th November.
This is what you need to do:
Order your Christmas frames through the Wombat Frames Website before 15th November and remember to fill in your email address. By doing this you will automatically be entered into the draw. The draw will take place on 16th November. The lucky winner will be notified by email on that day and win a voucher worth $150 of frames to spend on their next order.
Oh, and don’t worry, you won’t receive marketing emails from us unless you tick the box giving us permission to add you to the list that sends a Monthly Newsletter and other very occasional emails with special offers or events.
Thank you for liking our frames. The $150 Gift voucher Draw starts NOW!
Your Wombat Friends,
Simon and Gabrielle Marlow

She wanted to work with us as she is a very keen photographer interested in learning all about how we create our products and put them on the website. This is quite an involved process and there are lots of people out there doing product photography as a full time occupation. All the photographs shown in this article are taken by Mariah Cula.
At Wombat Frames Gabrielle Marlow does the bulk of this work so that hubbie Simon can get on with making all the frame orders that are flooding in.
The Work Experience goes for a week and is organised by the Department of Education. The students have to approach a business with jobs which they may wish to turn into a career when they leave school.
Mariah was part of the entire process of creating lifestyle photos for the website. Here the steps we took:
We had a great time all week, and I was actually surprised myself just how much is involved, because when you do it yourself you just ‘do’ it, and get on with the job until it’s done.
Here is what Mariah has to say about this week:
Over the last week I have learnt many new skills when using Photoshop and a professional printer such as cloning, adjusting the contrast and lighting, cleaning and maintaining the printer but the best part by far was taking the photographs and playing around with them till they looked almost perfect. I am so very grateful that I had this opportunity as part of my year 10 work experience.

Creating a more natural feel in our homes has us all turning away from synthetics and choosing materials that breathe. Recycled timbers fit the bill and create an environment and feeling closer to nature. It is just more sustainable for our precious planet Earth.
We are doing it together, one small step at a time.
Recycling timber started to become mainstream in the 1990's. Availability of home decor products and their aesthetic beauty and creativity bloomed.
This is also when the sustainable Wombat Frames business began. Making recycled timber picture frames, mirrors and custom art frames available in Australia since 1996.
There are some great benefits in using recycled timber.
1. Recycled Timber is beautiful. It is a natural material that has warmth and character. The natural colours of seasoned older timbers can not be found in newer or stained timbers.
Knots and features combine with recycling marks to create a unique patina. Some recycled timbers still have paint on them. These all add great and distinctive features to any home decor items.
Chalk up a win for recycled!
2. Recycled timber is naturally seasoned and has dried out with time. It hasn’t been artificially dried in a kiln. The moisture content is stable and perfect for re-use. Energy savings add up to a win for the planet.
Yeah!
3. Recycled Australian timber home wares are local. When you decorate with Australian recycled timber home-wares, your money stays in Australia. This helps our economy. Imported home wares and gifts mostly benefit the middle man.
Local is a winner. Yeah again!
4. Supporting local artists and craftists. You know you are helping smaller, niche or boutique artists and crafts people. Each item is unique and often hand made. Love, care, creativity and "positive vibes" are put in by Australian artisans. Without your ongoing support and purchases, small cottage producers will vanish.
Warm and fuzzy all around!
5. Creating a Sustainable Environment. No tree has been harmed in the creation of your home decor. Always a nice thing to say. Lower energy usage helps lower our environmental impact. No logging, cutting, milling, transporting, drying, storing, wasting. Landfill or wood chip and mulch is the end of the line for most of the timbers from demolition. Better than hugging a tree is buying a recycled timber home ware.
Saving our planet!
Wombat Frames is a great example of local crafts people, (craftisans) using local recycled timbers. Great home ware items are made and sent all over Australia. Photo frames, mirrors, picture frames, custom frames and small furniture pieces are all made using 100% recycled Australian timbers.
Demand for timber as a natural resource is huge, creating a strain on our planet. It takes many years for hardwood trees to reach maturity which means that it takes 100's of years for these to be replaced. With recycled timber, you can achieve the warm and welcoming look, save the planet and get a great product. Our homes are part of a sustainable environment and we are embracing an Eco-friendly lifestyle. Each decision to buy or use recycled is a win. Recycled timber is to be treasured and you can all play your part.

If you have kids or cute pets, then we bet it is a lot!
But, what happens to those photos?
]]>If you have kids or cute pets, then we bet it is a lot!
But, what happens to those photos?
You might set one as the home screen image on your phone, maybe message one to Nana, or post a couple on Facebook.
The rest probably get backed up in your cloud storage and maybe get scrolled through a couple of times a year if you are lucky.
Seems a waste for all those beautiful memories to languish away in a file folder.
Those photos were taken for a reason. To capture a moment in time, to immortalise a feeling of fun, or to remember something you never want to forget.
That is why you need to get your photos out of the cloud and onto the wall…
Family Love
Kids love looking at photos. One of the highlights of visiting your grandparents as a kid was being able to look through their old photo albums. Many happy hours would be spent marvelling what your parents looked like when they were young, pointing at their funny haircuts and laughing at the strange fashion of their youth.
Do you want your grandkids to miss out on this joy (even if they are a long way off yet!)?
There is something special about grouping around a photo album to stare back in time at moments of the past. It doesn’t have quite the same impact when you are crowded around a Smartphone!
Unique Decor
One of the best things about photographs is that they are unique. No one else in the world will be able to create the same feel, personality and look that your photos have. That is great, because a framed photo then becomes a unique piece of decor.
A photo pinned to the wall does not stand out. It also runs the risk of getting damaged. But a photo that is in a beautiful frame becomes showcased as a hero piece of decor. Especially when you select a gorgeous recycled timber frame like the ones here at Wombat Frames. A one-of-a-kind image in a standout frame makes everyone take notice!
The Feel Good Factor
Some days you will feel like nothing is going right. You were stuck in traffic and late to work, you spilled your coffee this morning, the kids are fighting, it’s raining, and you really need a pick me up. Then suddenly, you walk down the hallway and see your photos on the wall. Everyone is smiling and having fun. It is the feel-good factor you need to brighten your day.
Photos can have a positive effect on your mood. Looking back on happy moments can be the boost that your soul needs. A little pause in a cloudy day for a moment of gratitude. To remember how lucky you are to have those moments. If your photos were hidden up in the cloud, you might have nothing to save you from those grumpy days!
Builds Self Confidence
Did you know that children who grow up in a home with their family photos on the wall tend to have better self confidence than those that don’t?
Psychologists have actually studied this very concept. They discovered when the walls are filled with family moments, then children feel a greater sense of belonging. Finding your place in the world can be a difficult task for our young ones, so any way we can help them with their self confidence is great!
It’s A Waste
Probably the most compelling reason to get those photos out of the cloud and onto the wall is that it is such a waste to have them sitting unseen!
By the nature of what they are, photos are meant to be seen!
They remind us of the people we love, the moments we have shared together, the times we have enjoyed and how far we have come over time.
Have we convinced you? Are you ready to get those photos out of the cloud and onto the wall?
Then, check out our range of gorgeous recycled timber frames. They will help you truly showcase your photos in the way they deserve to be seen. Check out the range in store now.
]]>Sometimes it's great just to turn on ABC iview and catch up with a couple of shows. Escape from the City was on last night and there was no time to watch it then. I like the show because it's interesting what people are looking for in a home. Having a nice home as a base for a good life is so important and it fascinates me what different people look for. Also, the different styles of homes that are available in various parts of Australia.
This particular episode is so interesting. It's about a young couple Suzanne and Edgar and their two small children who are looking to move into the Southern Tablelands area of NSW. They have a business making films about sustainable farms to educate others about sustainable agriculture. That is so close to my heart!
Simon and I are very interested in sustainable living ourselves and at our business,Wombat Frames, we make Eco Friendly Picture Frames and Mirrors. These are made out of locally sourced Recycled Timbers. We use solar power for the workshop, sawdust is for the chooks and the garden and so on.
Back to the couch now and my cup of tea.
So I turned on the Show and started watching. It was so exciting because on their wall was one of our Recycled Red-gum Multi Collage Photo Frames. Filled with gorgeous family photographs. Pride of place above the lounge, looking so nice!
I had to pause it and just about skipped to the workshop where Simon is framing quite a few artworks today. He's got a lot on right now.
"Stop Everything for 10 minutes because I have something to show you that will make you smile" I told him, and he patiently followed me. He's such a good Aussie bloke, easy going and kind. It was hard not to tell him what I just saw on TV. So we turned it on and there was one of our frames, a feature frame on the wall of this young family.
You know, it's so satisfying when we see things like that, it motivates us so much, and yes, it definitely put a big smile on Simon's face. He's back at work now, framing original artworks. Using his creativity because each frame is unique. He chooses the timber carefully to compliment the frame.
So here is the link if you would like to see the program and see our frame on the wall in "Escape from the City".

]]>Large Recycled Timber Picture frames are a popular choice for interior decor and the right framed work really can ground the room. Here are a few ways to style a large picture frame:
A large piece of artwork or photography print becomes a special statement when framed in the right way. The right moulding will dramatically enhance the look of your art piece. This is why choosing the right frame is important to create the look that you're after.
To add to the sophistication of the artwork, especially prints, photographs it's a good idea to also use mat-board. This will not only keep the picture away from the glass for protection, it also gives the artwork a more sophisticated look. It is important to pick the right width of the mat that compliments the picture. You can contact Simon for friendly advice at Wombat Frames Australia.
It is so easy to take good quality photographs these days even on our phones. The resolution is generally fine for enlargements of your own photography up to at least size A3 with a good phone. So it isn't difficult to create a wonderful piece of personalized home decor. You can do this with a large timber photo frame you can that professional look.
Another way to create an interesting display and fill up a large space on the wall is to create a gallery of pictures of the same size on the wall. Take some large photo frames, place them in a grid, and there you have your beautiful personal collage made out of frames.Keep in mind the color of the walls when choosing your artwork and large picture frame. A dramatic large piece of art will complement and create a focal point for a painted wall. Let your art be the centerpiece of your room.
Simon at Wombat Frames spends a lot of time in the workshop creating stunning Eco Friendly photo frames out of Recycled Australian Hardwoods.
He's in there right now. Custom orders coming out of his ears, well definitely sawdust in any case. He's such a creative person.
He loves color and variety and his favorite pass time in the workshop is being creative with shape and color; making something different to the already big variety of multi collage frames he calls "standard".
A little while ago he started making frames out of thin strips of recycled timber left overs because he likes to use up every last scrap of wood and not have any waste. Then the paint pots came out and he spent the afternoon playing around with color. He also had some left over paints that he had accumulated from custom orders requiring certain colored frames to suit their color schemes in the home. Splish splash, chop chop, and just like magic, the way he always creates so spontaneously, these cute and bright frames were created.
They are fun! Which is why we call them our Wombat Happy Frames.
]]>
We'd like to show off our latest design. This gorgeous mirror was made when there was a spare moment in the workshop.
We only use recycled timbers and can use almost any timbers that come in the workshop door. Small off cuts the size of a pack of cards, or smaller, are all that is turned into firewood at the end of the day.
Looking in the scrap bucket inspired a new patchwork or parquetry design.
A solid mirror frame was made using recycled Oregon timbers from the wall studs salvaged from a house near Chatswood in Sydney. Then; the creative part! Almost like a jigsaw, small off-cuts were collected. These were then smothered in glue and nailed in position with small adjustments to fit. After a sand and a coat of furniture oil, this beautiful new mirror emerged.
This unique mirror which was created with lots of creative spontaneity has become a treasured Christmas present to our granddaughter.
But.... we like it so much that it's now added to the website as a whole new product line. As always, thanks for reading about our story and hope you order something online at Wombat Frames Australia. Custom orders are welcome.

Custom Frames Mirrors made using Eco Friendly Australian Recycled Timber.
As you can see, we've made another mirror in the same style since then. Here it is with a happy customer holding it. Ready to hang both horizontally or vertically.

It's always such a happy time of year when every one celebrates by shopping for their loved ones. Love is really the essence of Mothers Day and gift giving us just an expression of that love. The nice thing about the picture frames is that a personal touch will also be added to it, weather it's family photographs or artworks made by the children to put in the frames.
Our Grandson David made this drawing for us when he was very little. He loved seeing it in a real picture frame.

Have you ever thought about why we all like to take photographs? Lots of people prefer capturing their favorite moments in order to share them on the social network or to simply keep them in album safely. Photography is an ideal way to capture a special moment quickly, especially with mobile phones which just about everyone uses these days. Photography has been made that easy and now everyone has the opportunity to become a great photographer with the help of modern technology. Besides posting on Social Media and keeping files on the computer, we have traditionally also had photo albums which are a great way to keep photographs. You can have a great time creating a photo album which you then share with family and friends and create some special moments together. It also keeps them safe if the quality of the paper is acid free.
Photo displays are important to us and we spend a good deal of time choosing those which we treasure the most before printing them off. Keeping them in a photo album is great but what happens after showing them to everyone, and looking at them yourself for a few times? Where do they tend to end up? Initially they are on the coffee table but after a while they are usually put away. We all have special occasions in our lives that create such special moments of joy and happiness which we can preserve with photography. Looking at a picture of a brand new baby brings such feelings of tenderness and love. Capturing that brief moment in a little person's life is so special. They change so quickly every day and before we realize it they're all grown up! A Wedding is also a very special occasion, and so many of us have wedding photographer or designate several guests to capture those amazing moments. The start of a new life together, a special partnership of two people who love each other, generally start a family, a life journey together. It's an enormous occasion for them and their family and friends. It's also a time when all the people who are most important in their lives are there, all looking their best. This creates perfect photo opportunities for everyone. What are we going to do with all these amazing photographs?
Surely they deserve to be put on display!
So let's display them where everyone can enjoy them. I have a Wombat Frames multi picture photo frame on the wall showing a family occasion when I turned 50. As I'm "not a big party for me" person it was decided to go with the children and family to Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains, NSW, Australia. We have 4 children and 4 grandchildren already. It was in October so we weren't really expecting (but really hoping for) snow. As we were driving into the area it started to snow. So much fun! We got out of the car and of course everyone started playing and it ended up in a snowball fight. This is where the photos started and we continued taking photos throughout the weekend. Well, of course we had to display them on the wall for everyone to enjoy, right? We chose the right multi frame. The timber used was a dark reddish shade of Australian recycled timber Red Gum. The gorgeous multi photo collage frame was made to hold 24 photographs. It was so enjoyable to choose the best images to put into the frame and create a visual story about our special weekend together. Needless to say it is still on the wall and we like looking at it and seeing how much the children have grown, and how cute and small they were when those photographs were taken. Simon Marlow who is the talented picture frame designer and manufacturer can make a gorgeous frame for you too! In fact he has been designing and producing Australian Recycled Hardwood picture frames for over 23 years now and we proudly call him the master craftsman. He takes great care throughout the manufacturing process. Each frame he makes is created out of recycled timber which is locally sourced from around the Southern Highlands area. He makes frames to your requirements with custom framing as well as having a large selection of standardized designs: single frames, small 2 opening multi picture frames and huge multi picture frames holding over 70 images. Just imagine how this would create a visual story to share in your home! So finding and purchasing designer picture frames in Australia can really help you with not only protecting your photographs but also with displaying or hanging them on your empty walls (an amazing way to decorate your home). It is such a captivating way of holding on to your favorite memories and hanging them on your walls will be an ultimate reminder of the times you had fun such as your wedding photos, the time your kid took his or her first steps, your kid’s first birthday, or family picture.
